SIZE-INCLUSIVE PILATES
MOVEMENT THAT CELEBRATES EVERY BODY
At Rosy Movement, we believe that bodies in all of their forms are neutral and that every body deserves access to joyful, supportive movement without judgment, shame, or focus on weight loss. Our Size-Inclusive Pilates creates space for all bodies to experience the benefits of movement while feeling genuinely respected, seen, and valued.
TRUE SIZE-INCLUSIVE PHILOSOPHY We define size-inclusive Pilates as meeting you exactly where you are without any agenda to change, fix, or focus on your size. This isn't about tolerating different bodies—it's about actively celebrating them. We believe you when you tell us about your experience and we focus our teaching on empowering you to be the expert of your own body.
EQUIPMENT DESIGNED FOR COMFORT Our studio features versatile Pilates apparatus and props that adapt to diverse body shapes and sizes. We gear out equipment settings so the apparatus serves your movement needs rather than forcing your body to fit arbitrary setups.
GROUND-FLOOR ACCESSIBILITY Our Collingwood studio is at ground level with wide pathways and furniture designed to accommodate bodies of all sizes, allowing comfortable movement throughout the space.
MIRROR-FREE ENVIRONMENT We deliberately maintain a mirror-free studio space. This design choice allows you to focus on how movement feels in your body and connect with your internal experience, regardless of your relationship with mirrors.
HAES-ALIGNED TEACHING As a Health At Every Size (HAES) aligned studio, we never assume your goals, fitness level, or health status based on your body size. We focus on supporting whatever movement brings to your life rather than weight, appearance, or arbitrary metrics, recognising this looks different for every body and may change over time. You have full autonomy to modify, skip, or adapt any exercise based on what feels right for your body.
WHAT MAKES ROSY MOVEMENT’S APPROACH DIFFERENT
YOUR SESSION EXPERIENCE AT ROSY MOVEMENT
INITIAL CONSULTATION We begin with a thorough conversation to understand your movement history, including any past negative experiences, current comfort levels, and what you hope to gain from Pilates. This forms the foundation of your personalised approach, and we believe you when you tell us about your experience in your body.
SESSION OPTIONS Choose between private sessions for maximum personalisation or semi-private sessions (maximum three participants) in our size-inclusive group setting.
CONTINUOUS ADAPTATION All movements are continuously adapted to work with your specific body. We focus on making Pilates work for you, not forcing your body to conform to a standardised version of each exercise.
INDIVIDUAL APPROACH Sessions evolve at your pace, honouring your existing strengths and supporting whatever feels meaningful to you, without pressure or arbitrary timelines.
A TRAUMA-INFORMED SPACE
We understand that movement spaces haven't always been welcoming, particularly for people in larger bodies. Our trauma-informed approach includes:
SAFETY FIRST Physical and emotional safety form the foundation of all sessions. We prioritise creating an environment where you feel secure, respected, and in control of your experience.
CHOICE AND AUTONOMY All exercises are invitations, not commands. We provide education around spring choices and equipment setup, empowering you to make decisions that work for your body. You have full autonomy to modify, skip, or adapt any movement based on what feels right for your body.
CLEAR COMMUNICATION We use size-neutral language and actively avoid diet culture rhetoric. We focus on function and how movement feels in your body, without making assumptions about your goals, health status, or fitness level based on your size. You won't hear comments about weight loss, "toning," or "earning" food, or negative talk about any bodies.
VALIDATED EXPERIENCE Your lived experience is acknowledged and respected. We believe you when you tell us about your experience in your body, and we understand that people in larger bodies face unique barriers in movement spaces.
SIZE-INCLUSIVE FAQs
-
Health at Every Size is an evidence-based approach that recognises health exists on a continuum across all body sizes. HAES principles focus on sustainable, enjoyable behaviours rather than weight or appearance. Our HAES-aligned classes emphasise how movement feels and functions rather than how it might change your body.
-
Unlike traditional fitness spaces that often centre on appearance or weight loss, our approach prioritises your comfort, dignity, and personal experience. We understand that many people have experienced weight stigma in movement settings and actively work to create a different experience—one built on respect, accommodation, and celebration of all bodies.
-
No. We've chosen not to include mirrors in our studio space. While some people find mirrors helpful for movement awareness, we know many others find them distracting or uncomfortable. Our priority is creating a space where you feel comfortable and can focus on how movement feels in your body, not how it looks. Portable mirrors are available on request for those who prefer them.
-
Wear whatever feels comfortable and allows you to move freely. We recommend layers so you can adjust for comfort. All necessary equipment and props are provided at our studio, with extensive modifications available to accommodate different bodies and movement preferences.
-
We separate movement from weight loss, appearance goals, or “fixing” your body. Instead, we focus on function, capability, and how movement can enhance your life. By emphasising joy, autonomy, and personalised approaches, we help rebuild trust between you and your body, creating space for genuine enjoyment of movement.

Yes, and we're going to be completely honest about what we know and what we don't.
What we know: Our equipment has manufacturer weight limits. Our Balanced Body Cadillac is rated to 159kg, with the Cadillac canopy at 118kg. Our Merrithew ladder barrel is 159kg and our Pilates Health Equipment Reformer is 150kg. Our Pilates Health Equipment Wunda Chair and Spine Corrector are each rated to 100kg. These limits emerge from stress testing the equipment and are built to handle intensive daily use.
What we don't know: These industry standards, while designed to ensure structural safety, emerge from an industry that has historically excluded many bodies. The testing establishes mechanical limits but doesn't capture how the equipment actually feels or serves different bodies in a real-world Pilates practice.
How we work together: You have complete control. You decide what to explore and when to stop. We have years of experience working with diverse bodies on this equipment and can help you build trust with the apparatus at your own pace. Mat work is equally transformative.
We're actively working with manufacturers to push for better testing methods and support for all bodies. Your movement matters, and we're here to support it in whatever way works for you.
